The short version

An English-speaking documentary wedding photographer for your European wedding.

I'm Tim Schneider, a documentary wedding photographer based in Leipzig, Germany. Since 2012 I've documented over 150 weddings in 15+ countries — about 60% of them for couples flying in from the US, UK and Canada.

Photo coverage starts at €2,800 (≈ $3,000 USD) plus actual travel cost — typically 25–35% below the total cost of flying a US-based photographer to Europe once their transatlantic logistics load in. Photo + film together is €5,600. Multi-day, second shooter, custom albums quoted per inquiry. Zoom calls in your evening, DocuSign contracts, USD-equivalent invoicing, no transatlantic surprises.

Couples fly in from across the US, UK and Canada

Around 60% of my destination weddings are with couples flying in from North America. You are not the first transatlantic couple I am working with — and the logistics, time-zone calls and US contract paperwork are nothing new on my side.

For transatlantic couples

Why most US couples book a Europe-based photographer

The honest version, after a hundred-plus transatlantic conversations.

Reason 01

No transatlantic travel fee

A US-based photographer typically loads $3,000–$5,000 in flights, hotels, and lost-day fees onto the invoice before pressing the shutter. I am already on this side of the ocean. The savings sit on your end.

Reason 02

I have already shot at your venue

Most US couples pick from a small set of premium European venues — Borgo San Lorenzo, Villa del Balbianello, Hotel Caruso, Finca Son Doblons. I know the light, the DOCs, and the timing pitfalls. No "scout day" surprises.

Reason 03

I speak with your vendors

Passable Italian and French, fluent German, native-level English. Your DOC, florist and venue manager get instructions in their language. Things stop falling between languages on your wedding day.

Reason 04

European-based backup network

If something goes catastrophically wrong (illness, force majeure) on a Tuesday for a Saturday wedding, a US-based photographer cannot get there. I keep a small ring of trusted European second shooters on call.

Destinations

Where I photograph

Italy is the favourite — three out of every five US couples I book pick Tuscany, Lake Como or the Amalfi Coast. Don't see your destination? Ask. I travel further on request.

FAQ

Questions from US couples, answered honestly

How does this work if we are based in the US?

+

Around 60% of my destination weddings are with couples flying in from North America. We schedule planning calls in your evening (EST/PST) so you don't have to take time off. Contracts are signed via DocuSign in English, invoices are issued in EUR with a USD equivalent at the exchange rate on the day, and payment is via international bank transfer or Wise (no transatlantic wire fee surprises). On the day, I arrive 24-48 hours early, scout your venue, and join your welcome dinner if you'd like.

Why book a Europe-based photographer instead of flying ours from the US?

+

Three reasons most US couples choose this route. (1) Cost: a US photographer typically prices in transatlantic flights, accommodation, and lost-day fees — often $3,000–$5,000 in pure travel overhead before they even pick up a camera. I am already on this side of the ocean. (2) Local fluency: I have shot at most premium European venues before, know the planners, the DOCs, the light at golden hour, and speak passable Italian/French to coordinate with vendors. (3) Backup logistics: if your photographer cancels three days out, a US-based one cannot just hop a train. I keep a network of European-based second shooters on standby.

How much does a European destination wedding photographer cost — in USD?

+

Photo coverage starts at €2,800 (≈ $3,000 USD) for elopements and €3,800 (≈ $4,100 USD) for full-day reportage. Photo + cinema film together is €5,600 (≈ $6,000 USD). Travel costs are itemised separately — typically €800–€2,500 depending on destination. Multi-day coverage, second shooter, drone, and custom albums are quoted per inquiry. All-in totals are typically 25–35% below comparable US-based photographers once their transatlantic travel is loaded in.

Italian and French marriage license logistics — do you help with that?

+

I am not your wedding planner, but I have walked enough US couples through this that I have an opinionated cheat sheet I can send. Short version: most US couples do their legal paperwork at home (city hall, no guests) and treat the European wedding as a symbolic ceremony. This avoids 4–8 weeks of apostille and translation. If you do want a legally binding ceremony in Italy or France, plan an extra 6–10 weeks of paperwork and budget for an officiant who speaks both languages.

What is your style?

+

Documentary and editorial. No posed group portraits, no stiff "look at the camera" moments. I work quietly in the background and capture what is actually happening — the laughter at the welcome dinner, the tear at the vow exchange, the loud aunt on the dance floor. The aesthetic is timeless: muted skin tones, warm light, true colour. No heavy filters, no Instagram trends that will look dated in five years.

How far ahead should we book? We have not picked a venue yet.

+

For peak European wedding season (May–September) I take bookings 9–14 months out. Off-season (October–April) is usually 4–6 months. If you have not picked a venue, that is fine — reach out early and I can share recommendations on planners and venues based on your guest count and aesthetic. No commission, just opinions from someone who has shot at most of them.

What happens if the weather ruins our outdoor plan?

+

European weather will eventually disappoint you, especially in shoulder months. I scout backup options the day before with your planner, and documentary photography actually thrives in unexpected conditions. The most striking image I ever delivered was a couple running through a sudden Tuscan rainstorm to reach their reception. Embrace the rain.

Can you also film the wedding?

+

Yes — and bundling photo + film with one person is genuinely a different experience than coordinating two separate vendors. The visual language stays consistent, you brief one person, and there is no awkward "who gets the front-row spot" jostling during the ceremony. The Signature and Bespoke packages include cinema film. Standalone film add-on is available from €1,800.

Do you recommend planners or venues?

+

Yes, but only ones I have personally worked with. Reach out with your destination and rough guest count and I'll send 2–3 introductions. No commission, no kickback — just my honest pick based on what kind of wedding you actually want.
